Gone are the days when men who paid attention to their appearance weren’t considered manly. Today’s metrosexual man wants to look healthy, handsome and well groomed.

Even looking fashionably dishevelled takes some preparation. Here are five simple tips that will help every man to look his best.

Face
Your face is, very much, who you are. It is constantly battered by the weather, the sun, pollutants and your hands. It is important to give it some particular attention.

Get to know your facial skin type. Most men have a mixture of skin types on their faces, sometimes called combination skin. Noses can, typically, be quite oily whereas the chin and neck can often be quite dry. Ensure that you wash your face with a gentle soap. If you have sensitive skin choose a soap that is free of fragrance. Dry your face by dabbing with a towel, not rubbing, and always apply a moisturiser, ideally one that contains some UV protection.

Shaving can really take its toll on your facial skin. Shaving after you’ve showered makes shaving much easier as the beard is softened in the shower. Once you’ve shaved don’t splash any alcohol based aftershave all over your face. Choose a soothing after-shaving balm to calm and moisturise your chin skin.

Hair
Always choose a hair style that suits your face and your hair type. If you are losing your hair don’t be tempted to cover your bald spots by growing your hair longer and combing it over your bald spot. This is never a good look. Visit a good hair stylist and get your hair cut fashionably short. Look around for celebrities who have similar hair and looks and copy their hair style. It is worth remembering that mullets are never a good hair style choice and pony tails only ever look good on ponies.

When drying your hair don’t bake it with an aggressive hair dryer. If possible let your hair dry naturally. Then apply some wax or gel to keep your hair looking good all day.

Teeth
Your smile says a lot about you. Have you ever notices how all Hollywood actors and TV personalities have glowing white teeth. Beige and grey, coffee and wine stained teeth will age you more than anything. Visit your dentist often and treat yourself to a little gentle teeth whitening.

Eyes
A man’s eyes need special attention. The skin around the eyes is much thinner than the skin elsewhere on the face and it needs special attention. There are some very effective skin care products that are designed to reduce puffiness and lessen the appearance of lines around the eyes so why not treat yourself? You might also like to occasionally use some eye brightening eye drops to give your eyes an appealing twinkle.

Lifestyle
Looking good really means looking after yourself. Take a hard look at your bad habits, staying up late, smoking, drinking, your diet, your daily exercise and those stresses in your life. Try to get plenty of sleep, plenty of fresh air, plenty of water and a healthy diet. Remember that it isn’t unmanly to look after your appearance so why not treat yourself to a few mens skin care products that you’ll actually use. Paying attention to these basic aspects of your lifestyle can work wonders for the way that you look.
