Care For Your Sensitive Skin
Increasing numbers of people around the world are experiencing sensitive skin but it is necessary to know just what sensitive skin means. The normal explanation is where our skin reacts unfavorably to external stimuli which could be the atmosphere, sunlight, clothing, products that we sue on our bodies causing redness and irritation. If the skin does become hyper-sensitized in this way, special products that are able to be applied called sensitive skin care products have to be used.
As each person is different, so the range of sensitive skin care has to be flexible too as this is not a situation where one product will work with everyone. What is know however, is that almost everyone that has hyper-sensitive skin will have a reaction to any type of detergent and other cleaning products.
This skin damage can actually affect everyone to a greater or lesser degree and is often just a matter of personal tolerance. As we all have different tolerance levels, those with more sensitive skin will be more susceptible to skin damage which could actually happen in a short space of time.
The difference with sensitive skin care to ordinary skin care products is the concentration of known irritants is kept to an absolute minimum or eliminated from the product completely. It may seem obvious, as most skin care products are formulated to help protect the skin, but only use products that are actually marked for sensitive skin use and if you are unsure, check the ingredients listing to see if there are any specific warnings you should be aware of.
Just to be sure, when you choose the products you require just buy the ones with the least number of additives and preservatives available. Wherever possible, avoid any type of cleanser or toner as they are almost invariably alcohol based.
When you are doing the washing, it is advisable to wear rubber gloves to protect your hands from the effects of the detergents and if rubber causes you problems then it is possible to wear cotton gloves beneath the rubber ones. Before entering out into the sunlight, which can be another skin irritant, it is advisable to apply a formulated sunscreen that will not irritate the skin either.
Avoiding exposure to dust and other pollutants is also important for sensitive skin care so cover yourself adequately before going out but you can use a hypoallergenic moisturizer as a skin care product if there is none specifically labeled for sensitive skin. Then when you clean your face, ensure that nothing contains any soap or alcohol (as mentioned previously) is used and any exfoliation peels or creams are applied carefully not to damage the skin further.
Do not leave the makeup on for too long and use hypoallergenic makeup removers at all times. While there is a great deal to think about if you have a sensitive skin condition, it is a matter of getting into a routine and know what causes the irritation as this will save you time and distress.
