The most important assets of an haridresser are his or her tools. Before starting to cut hair you should get a pair of scissors that is made for cutting hair; never use a regular pair of scissors. While someone can find a decent pair of scissors at the drug store fairly cheap, keep in mind that cheap scissors dull easier and dull scissors will give a dull cut. Please be aware that it is extremely important that you never use scissors you use for cutting hair for anything else. Other tools to stock up on for cutting hair would include combs, electric hair clipper, razors, hair clips, and a blow-dryer. It is highly recommnded to sterilize all tools that get in contact with hair or skin to make sure there will be no infections.

Ok, now take some clips and section the hair off; there should be a total of 8 sections with 4 sections on the top layer and 4 on the bottom layer. Whatever hairstyle is being cut, the most important rule is to cut only a little at a time. You should keep in mind that you can always cut off mor elater; but there is no way to do anything if it’s cut to short. The easiest cut for beginners would be an all over one length cut. Start at the section which is closest to the nape of the neck for this cut. Release it from the clip and comb through the section.

Now grab a piece of the freed section, it should be about one inch thick, and comb it. Grab the section between your index and middle finger - it shoud be around about 1/4 inch from the end - before releasing the comb. You should start by cutting off about1/8 inch pieces of hair, repeat until the desire length is reached. When you are done with this piece of the section, release it. Then comb a piece of the already cut hair into a new inch-sized piece of hair grabbing it 1/4 of an inch from the bottom. Cut the rest of the combed section and use already cut pieces as a reference.

Repeat doing this until all sections have the same size. To start a new section, release a new section adjacent to an already cut section and use the cut hair as a reference. Repeat this for the rest of the sections of hair until the whole head is even and that is how to cut hair well.
