The University of Louisiana has just released findings from a recent study that shows skin looks better in the long-run after using more natural products on it. Both dermatological and sociological departments of the university were involved in the research study, which sampled over 5000 people, over a period of 5 years.

The study aimed to determine which type of skin care products made people look more beautiful not only in the short term (1-10 weeks) but also the long term (1-5 years). A whole host of products were tested, including high street brands, those from small organic companies, health spa products, high end luxury products and even supermarket own-brands.The people taking part in the study were given one of a number of products to use for a period of five years, without knowing which one they had. Pictures were taken of them at weekly intervals and assessed by a completely individual group of people.

The results highlighed a couple of important findings.Firstly, the skin care products that cost the most amount of money had the biggest impact on the improvement of looks over the short term period, i.e. after the participant had used the products on their skin for between 1 and 10 weeks.Secondly, those participants who had been given skin care products to use that had the lowest levels of synthetic ingredients, actually came out top on the improved attractiveness rating, when judged over the long term, i.e. between year 1 and year 5.

Those who conducted the research have suggested that the synthetic products that cause things like skin plumping, tanning and tightening might make people look better in the short term but they take their toll on the skin, which would benefit more from being exposed to all-natural products

Their advice is to always check the labels when you buy skin care products and make sure you know that the products used are high quality and natural when you go for a spa treatment .
