Skin needling - the benefits
Collagen Induction Therapy is often a procedure that involves a trip to the doctors (or a specialist). However, the Dermaroller is a variety of collagen induction therapy which can be carried out by yourself in your own house, in your own time; this can smooth out wrinkles, improves acne scarring and reduces stretchmarks.
A common factor in the development of scars, wrinkles, stretch marks and uneven skin is a lack of collagen. Using a Derma-roller encourages collagen production in the skin, which minimises and even removes their appearance, this can only be achieved if skin needling is carried out frequently to keep the skin healing until it has healed to an acceptable level.
Skin needling (micro-needling) is a procedure carried out with a skin roller that is covered with numerous tiny needles. These needles perforate the outside layer of skin and gently part the pores of the skin. This process has 2 big advantages; it effectively activates collagen generation at the same time as providing a clear channel for creams and lotions to be absorbed more easily through the topmost layer (epidermis) of skin. Micro-needling (skin needling) creates a very tiny trauma which only lasts for about one hour and doesn’t cause the skin to break or bleed in the treated area in the way that laser therapy or microdermabrasion do.
The microscopic punctures (which are often just the opening of the pores of your skin) caused by the micro-needling, stimulate collagen production in the dermis layer (the second layer of skin) and it creates a good environment for collagen and elastin formation. These key ingredients help the skin to cosmetically renew.
There are several alternatives to micro-needling, and a lot of these require visits to a specialist. These include laser therapy and Micro-Dermabrasion. Using a Derma roller at home is generally much cheaper.
