What kind of Breast Implants are available?
The majority of women opting for breast augmentation surgery are looking to increase their breast size, in some cases they wish to correct noticable assymetry, both of which the procedure has proved successful in doing. If a drastic size increase is desired then this would have to be carried out in stages using saline implants which have a valve in order to minimise potential complications. In Manhattan breast augmentation clinics, there is now also a choice of implant shape with the introduction of teardrop-shaped implants which are intended to give a more “natural” breast shape, however the incisions to insert these need to be larger than those needed for round implants as they are much less flexible. Making the decision of silicone or saline is next. Silicone implants have been used in breast augmentation surgery in Manhattan since the 60’s and have the benefit of being long-standing and therefore well tested and modified. The main element of breast tissue is body fat, which silicone gel mimics very well giving a realistic look and feel to breasts enhanced with silicone implants. They are reliable implants tha very rarely leak or rupture. A sturdy silicone shell filled with salt water forms a saline implant. Saline implants are generally filled once they have been succesfully inserted into place. They have a valve that closes once the filling tube is removed. The incisions to insert saline implants are smaller than those used for silicone implants. One of the benefits of filling the implants once they have been inserted is that it enables the surgeon to even out the size of the breasts, perfect for those looking to balance the size of their breasts through breast enhancement. Silicone implants can sometimes crease or wrinkle which can cause visible distortion to the breast. Some people believe saline implants don’t feel as “natural” as silicone implants. Saline implants have been known to completely deflate, in which case a replacement implant would be required. They also have a greater risk of leaking than silicone implants. However, saline is absorbed by the body very quickly as it is a harmless, biocompatible substance.
